Our Attorneys
Mr. Garvey is a Partner with the Garvey Ballou Law Firm. He graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1971 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. He served on active duty in the United States Navy from 1971 – 1974 as a Civil Engineer Corps Officer, rising to rank of Lieutenant. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the Catholic University of America School of Law in 1976.
He was admitted to the Bar of the State of New Jersey in 1976. He is also admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and before the United States District Court, District of New Jersey, the United States Court of Appeals, Third Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He has been recognized as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court since 1983.
Mr. Garvey has tried over 100 cases to verdict. He practices primarily in the areas of defense of general civil litigation and personal injury matters including automobile, construction, professional malpractice and products liability litigation.
Mr. Garvey is a member of the New Jersey Defense Association and served as its President from 2010 -2011 and as its Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 2011-2012. He received the Annual Trial Bar award from the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey in 2012.
Mr. Ballou is a Partner with the Garvey Ballou Law Firm. He graduated from Boston College in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1982.
He was admitted to the Bar of the State of New Jersey in 1982. He is also admitted to practice law in the State of New York, the United States District Court, District of New Jersey and the United States Court of Appeals, Third Circuit. He mantains an “AV” rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Ballou has tried over 100 cases to verdict. He practices primarily in the areas of defense of personal injury matters including premises liability, automobile, construction and trucking litigation as well as medical malpractice defense of physicians, nurses and healthcare personnel. He has extensive experience representing self-insured clients and practicing in both the State and Federal Courts.
Mr. Ballou is a member of the New Jersey Bar Association, the New Jersey Defense Association and the Defense Research Institute. He has served as a Member of the District lllA Ethics Committee.
